Content Summary

Russia is a country rich and diverse in heritage resources. More than 30 Russian heritage sites are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, together shaping a distinctive national image and manifesting spiritual and cultural values that span a thousand years. From the ancient walls of the Moscow Kremlin to the majestic squares and royal palaces of St. Petersburg, from the multidomed wooden churches of the Russian North to the Kazan University Astronomical Observatory, this lecture will take you into the most representative heritage sites of Russia, exploring their historical legacy and contemporary development. In addition to already inscribed properties, the lecture will also introduce the latest nomination projects, including the “Great Tea Road” transnational serial nomination jointly pursued by China, Mongolia and Russia.
