On August 10, 2025, the Asia-Pacific Series of World Heritage Thematic Workshops officially opened in Quanzhou, Fujian. The workshop was jointly organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Training and Research Center for the Asia and the Pacific Region (WHITR-AP Beijing), ICOMOS China, the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, and the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University. It was hosted by the Quanzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism, with support from the Quanzhou Cultural Relics Protection Center and the Anxi Teaching and Research Base of the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University. In response to the guiding principles of the “Third Cycle Periodic Report and Regional Framework Action Plan for the Asia-Pacific Region” released at the 45th Session of the World Heritage Committee in September 2023, this workshop focused on the significance of research, conservation, and presentation of serial heritage sites in the Asia-Pacific region—particularly transnational and transboundary heritage. It aimed to put into practice UNESCO’s philosophy of promoting international cooperation, fostering peace, and advancing heritage conservation and interpretation to the highest international standards. The workshop attracted 18 participants from Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Tajikistan, India, Indonesia, and mainland China, as well as the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions. Additionally, nine experts from four countries—Mexico, Italy, Malaysia, and China—were invited to deliver lectures in person.
